Girl’s lip balm set on fire during terrifying attack by teen thugs

A girl's lip balm was set on fire and her phone smashed up in a terrifying attack by teenage thugs.

The girl was approached by a group of teenagers on Captain's Lane, Wigan at around 6pm on Sunday, April 2. Her bag was emptied and her phone smashed up, before her lip balm was set on fire.

She was then attacked with an "object" with the teenagers hitting her legs. She suffered minor injuries. Two boys, aged 13 and 15, have since been arrested on suspicion of robbery, with the 15-year-old being further arrested on suspicion of assault and malicious communication.

That follows an incident at the One Stop Shop on Warrington Road, Ashton-in-Makerfield, on Monday, March 27. The Manchester Evening News reported the two boys remain in custody and an investigation is ongoing.

Sergeant Ian Callaghan of Greater Manchester Police's Wigan division: "I understand that both of these incidents can cause concern in the community and I want to reassure the public that we are thoroughly investigating the circumstances. We have a robust approach to incidents of this nature and our top priority is keeping people safe. I hope these arrests show that we take these reports incredibly seriously."
