A city centre street was partially closed off today after reports a woman was raped this morning.
Police were called to reports that two people were having sex on Bolton Street, near Riley's sports bar, at around 1.45am on Thursday, April 6. Officers attended and arrested a 41-year-old man on suspicion of raping a woman.
He has been taken into custody , where he will be questioned by detectives. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Merseyside police.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "A man has been arrested on suspicion of a suspected rape in Liverpool in city centre in the early hours of this morning, Thursday 6 April. At around 1.45am we received a report that two people were engaging in sexual activity on Bolton Street.
"Officers attended and a 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape of a female. He is still in custody to be questioned by police.
