Live updates as police seal off street after boy stabbed

Police are currently at the scene of a reported stabbing of a teenage boy.

Merseyside Police confirmed officers received a call at around 7.46pm to Westfield Street in St Helens following reports a 15-year-old had been "stabbed in the head".

The road is closed in both directions and a large cordon is in place.

A boy 15 has reportedly been stabbed in the head in St Helens.

Merseyside Police are currently at the scene on Westfield Street which is in the town centre.

A cordon is in place.

We are unable to provide you with an update on the boy's conditon at this time, however we have been told he has suffered 'head injuries'

We are told by Merseyside Police the teenager is "not assisting police" with their investigation at this time.

Scientific support have been at the scene

It is understood a forensic scientfic support team have already been at the scene.

Condition of boy

We are unable to provide a condition update of the boy at this time.

Ambulance were called to the scene and we have contacted the North West Ambulance Service for an update.

We have been told the boy, 15, suffered 'head injuries' but we do not know the extent of those injuries at the current time.

Camera inside cordon

A camera has been placed inside the cordon seemingly ahead of a forensic team arriving to investigate and collect evidence.

Traffic is being diverted

According to Inrix the road is closed in both directions.

The travel monitor reads: Westfield Street in both directions closed due to police incident from Cotham Street to A58 Linkway West (Tesco / Cineworld Traffic Lights). Traffic is coping well.

The area cordoned off is surrounded by a number of businesses. One worker has spoken to our reporter at the scene

Boy, 15, "not assisting" police

The circumstances surrounding this incident are still unknown but Merseyside Police's Force Incident Manager said the victim, believed to be a boy, aged, 15, was "not assisting police"

Police were called to reports of a stabbing and quickly cordoned off the scene
