A Liverpool takeaway was ordered to shut after health inspectors found evidence of a "large mouse infestation" on the premises.

Babylon Kebab Pizza, based in Breckfield North Road in north Liverpool, was inspected by Liverpool City Council's environmental health team on February 6.

As previously reported by the ECHO, the business was hit with a zero rating for food hygiene following the inspection. This is the lowest rating that can be awarded and means that urgent improvement is necessary if the business is to be allowed to remain trading.

Following news of that inspection, the ECHO used Freedom of Information laws to request a copy of the full inspection report related to Babylon Kebab Pizza.

The report reveals that once inside the business, inspectors made the grim find of mouse droppings in numerous places on the ground floor of the premises.

The report states: "There were mouse droppings (faeces, poo) beneath and behind equipment and on shelving in the majority of areas on the ground floor. This indicates a large infestation and presented an imminent risk of injury hazard and so the premises has been voluntarily closed."

The report includes the wording of a closure notice served on the premises, which states that it should not be reopened until two reports, issued by a 'competent' pest control company, declaring that the premises is free from mouse infestation have been sent to the council's inspector and a fresh visit carried out.

The report shows that the mice infestation inside the business was not the only issue raised.

Inspectors also described said the back yard area was: "Badly cluttered with disused equipment. material, rotten food, dirt and debris." The underside and body of the shop's dough mixing machine was also found to be dirty.
