A mixture of snow, sleet and rain is forecast for across Merseyside and the North West.

Wintry showers are predicted as Liverpool enters its second day of a yellow snow and ice warning, put in place by the Met Office. Forecasters report the cold weather may cause some disruption including cancellations to train and bus services.

Despite the national severe weather warnings in place, conditions are expected to turn milder later in the week as people should expected unsettled weather.

Met Office chief forecaster, Dan Suri, said: "An area of low pressure moving eastward has brought a mild, and blustery start to the week for much of England and Wales, with showers and some coastal gales. However, an Arctic maritime air mass will reassert itself from the north later today bringing with it another dose of snow and frosty nights for some.

"As we head through the second half of the week conditions turn milder, wetter and windier from the west. This change to milder conditions will be preceded by some snow over parts of northern England and Scotland later on Wednesday, mainly over higher ground."

The Met Office say that a band of rain, sleet and snow will move southwards and it will feel particularly cold in the breeze. Into the evening of Tuesday, March 14, the wintry showers will continue to move southwards and it will become drier overnight in the north.

Into Wednesday, there will be unsettled showers , some of which will be heavy at times. The temperature will be cold with light wings but it will turn milder into Thursday.
