Three teenagers were arrested after an attack on two cats.

Police confirmed they received reports of animal cruelty at a property on Westminster Avenue, Bootle, taking place on Sunday, March 5. Footage has been shared online which appears to show the attack.

As a result, two boys, aged 13, and one girl, aged 16, from Liverpool, have been arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty offences. Officers confirmed one cat in the video was in a critical but stable condition.

The ECHO has chosen not to publish the footage circulating online showing the incident due to its graphic nature. However videos of the attack appear to show a number of suspects chasing after cats which are trying to escape through windows and doors and hide under furniture.

During the video, which is more than a minute long, the suspects manage to get hold of the cats. The attackers then throw the cats, stomp on them, kick them, pull their tails and hit them with objects.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said today: "Three teenagers have been arrested following a report of animal cruelty. Just after 8.30pm last night officers received a report of animal cruelty at an address on Westminster Avenue that took place on Sunday, March 5.

"Two boys aged 13 and one girl aged 16 from Liverpool have been arrested on suspicion of cruelty to animal offences. They have been taken to a police station in Merseyside where they remain in custody.

"An investigation is underway in the area. Anyone with information should contact us @MerPolCC or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 with reference 23000194073."
