Police have located a suspected firearm following a shooting which left a 27-year-old man injured.
The man, who self-presented at hospital with a gunshot wound to his ankle at around 10.30pm yesterday, February 2, is not co-operating with the investigation, Merseyside Police said. Officers remained on patrol in Sefton today as detectives carried out CCTV, witness and house-to-house enquiries in the area.
It is believed the shooting took place in the Gorsey Lane area of Litherland. At around 4.20pm yesterday, police received a report that a suspected firearm was found in the mud within the grounds of Bootle Golf Course on Dunningsbridge Road. The weapon was recovered and will be examined to see if it is a viable firearm.

Detective Inspector Sara Lang said: “We are treating this as a targeted incident and are continuing to carry out a number of lines of enquiry. We have a large police presence in the Litherland area and I would encourage people to come forward and tell us what they know.
“There is no room for guns on the streets and we will do everything we can to find the person or people responsible for this incident and bring them to justice. We will always take immediate action to incidents involving guns and we are actively working to make Merseyside a safer place to live and work. We are committed to taking weapons off our streets and, rest assured, if you tell us about any suspected possession or offences we will investigate.
“Merseyside Police pro-actively investigates serious organised crime including the use of guns and the supply and distribution of drugs on Merseyside and is relentless in its pursuit of offenders. Information from the public is vital if we are to breakdown the organised crime groups who bring misery to our streets.”
