The shoe of 2024, it seems, is the loafer.
The slip-on shoe that was established over 150 years ago has had somewhat of a resurgence with influencers and celebrities alike donning these leather flats lately – and we're here for it. It's even had the seal of approval from Loose Women panellist Frankie Bridge, who we deem as somewhat of a high street fashion aficionado, who has found a pair from Marks & Spencer for £55 that has shoppers praising them for being way cheaper than they look.
Released last summer, the Leather Trim Flat Loafers from the world famous British store previously gained popularity for looking ‘almost identical’ to an expensive version by Bottega Veneta but were priced £805 cheaper, which is always a winner.

Some fashion fans are even stating the M&S loafers are 'better than designer' – which is quite the claim. The 35-year-old singer shared the shoes on her Instagram over the weekend as part of her weekly Frankie's Faves round up and she styled a number of looks she deemed suitable for work and called the loafers the 'ideal work shoe' for being 'comfortable and smart'.
And she’s not the only one who’s obsessed, reports The Mirror, as the classy and elegant shoes have garnered a mass of five star reviews from shoppers who have commended the loafers for being both stylish and affordable.
One wrote: "Smart loafers , classic design . Look as if they came from Russell and Bromley and cost 3x the price . Very happy with purchase."
Another added: "Better than designer! Fashionable, comfortable loafers. They look good with practically anything! Well done yet again M&S! Credit due to your women's fashion team!"
A third stated: "Fabulous loafers look far more expensive than they are! Had lots of lovely comments."
As is often the case with leather shoes, a number of people have complained that they’re ‘a bit stiff’, while others have said they're a bit on the large side, but they do come in sizes 3-8 including half sizes, so you should be able to find your perfect fit.
These loafers are such a great addition to any work look and add a touch of class thanks to the glistening gold buckle on the loafer's tongue and a shiny, patent finish and would work with skirts, trousers and dresses.
These M&S loafers aren't the only ones Frankie has been spotted in either. It seems she also can't get enough of them having shared another style – the Lionel chunky leather loafer from Schuh, which are now £21.99, having been reduced from £60. Many other high street stores are jumping on this 'old money' style of shoe (they were the late Queen's favourite style after all) and we are also loving these penny-style loafers from H&M for £29.99, which have been compared to Miu Miu.
For something a little chunkier though, New Look’s Black Leather-Look Chunky Loafers are £35.99 and perfect for adding a little bit of height to an outfit without needing heels. Or you can pick up Frankie’s M&S Leather Trim Flat Loafers here for £55.
