Two men are accused of an "inside job" fraud against a major Liverpool based pension scheme provider.
The Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS), which has a head office in the Liver Buildings, serves around 500,000 university sector employees and manages pension funds for universities.
However an investigation has resulted in charges against Saleem Yousaf, 53, who was employed by USS Ltd as its head of IT infrastructure and security. Yousaf, of Langton Lane in Ribby with Wrea, Lancashire, was due to appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court today to face two charges of fraud by abuse of position.

According to the wording of the charges, while working for the pension provider Yousaf "dishonestly abused that position intending thereby to make a gain, namely £35,758.78, for yourself" when he had been "expected to safeguard, or not to act against, the financial interests of" the USS.
The second charge alleges that Yousaf committed the same offence to gain £288,346.80, for "yourself and another".
A second man, 50-year-old Mumur Alam, of no fixed address, was also charged with fraud by false representation. According to the wording of the charge he "committed fraud in that you dishonestly made a false representation, namely submitting invoices for products and services not supplied" in an effort to gain £288,346.80 "for yourself and another".
The offences are said to have been committed between August 2015 and August 2018.
