Melting snow on the roof could lead police straight to your door

Melting snow on roofs could lead police to knock on doors.

Liverpool and many parts of Merseyside woke up to blankets of snow earlier this week, with light snow also predicted for around 8pm today, Thursday, January 18. But the white stuff could also help police officers patrolling areas during the cold snap.

A previous photo shared by Devon and Cornwall Police in 2018, showed how snow could provide a huge hint that a cannabis farm is secretly being run inside a property. One tell-tale sign a drugs farm could be operating in a neighbouring property is the sight of pigeons gathering on a rooftop – seeking out the warmth from the farm below.

That same warmth, coming from the heaters used in the production of cannabis, can melt the snow and give away a farm, reports Devon Live.

The image in question was taken by officers in Haarlem near Amsterdam, and was previously shared on social media by Kingsbridge Police, who previously said: “If we are lucky enough to have some decent snow over the next few days, and if anybody notices a sight like this, can you let us know.”

Their colleagues in the Netherlands uncovered a cannabis farm after spotting the lack of snow on the roof of one home, while neighbouring buildings suffered a heavy covering. Officers raided the home after spotting its snow-free roof, and released the picture after they discovered a cannabis farm inside, with plants growing under heat lamps, hence the melting snow.
