The pillion passenger, a 15-year-old boy from Everton was arrested on suspicion of a possession of a Class B controlled drug. Merseyside police have been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) following the incident.

Police are now appealing to a group of bystanders who were stood nearby at the time of the incident.

Sergeant Simon Duffy said: “We are aware a group of bystanders were stood near to the incident and would have had a good view, possibly witnessing the whole incident.

“These people are likely to have vital information that will help our investigation. I would urge these people to contact Merseyside Police either by calling 0151 777 5747, or emailing SCIU@merseyside.police.uk

“If you drove along Priory Road and noticed the incident or have dashcam fitted to your vehicle, I would also ask you to contact us as a matter of urgency.”
