Huge queues as Liverpool city centre packed on 'mad Friday'
Thousands of people came to the city to shop, dine and drink
There were huge queues to get into Liverpool City Centre as people enjoyed shopping, dining and drinking on "mad Friday".
As people finished work ahead of the Christmas holidays on Friday, December 22, the city centre was packed with festive shoppers, tourists and party-goers. Heading along The Strand was a challenge, with cars queuing back towards Leeds Street as people tried to get home or find parking.
Shoppers flocked to Church Street, Lord Street and Paradise Street for some last minute Christmas shopping, with many being seen holding bags from M&S, JD and Zara. A number of people also took the opportunity to grab their Christmas essentials ahead of supermarkets closing on December 25.

Some people brought festive spirit to the city by wearing bright Christmas jumpers and festive earrings. As well as shopping, thousands of people went to Liverpool Christmas markets to try some of the dozens of food stalls, grab a mulled wine or pick up a gift for a loved one.
The Christmas markets were closed on Thursday, December 22, due to high winds in Storm Pia. The final Friday before Christmas also draws in huge crowds in the pubs, bars and clubs.
