Two men have been charged with drug offences in a major Merseyside police operation.

Detectives confirmed that the men, from Wirral, have both been remanded to appear in Wirral Adult Remand Court today, Friday, December 22. Jack Hayes, 30, of no fixed abode and Shaquille Morris, 22, of Allerton Road, in Tranmere, have both been charged with being concerned in the supply of heroin and crack cocaine.

The charges form part of a new operation, known locally as Evolve, which aims to rid communities of organised criminal groups and to rebuild the areas that have been most-affected by gang-related activity. The latest phase combined high-visibility police operations and covert policing tactics.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "The strategy sees police ruthlessly pursue gang members using all available powers and tactics to clear an area; continue activity to hold the location, so another gang can’t take control in the vacuum; and then work with residents and partners to build the community into a more prosperous area where people would love to live, work and visit and one less susceptible to being exploited by organised crime groups.
"EVOLVE projects are taking place in areas of Wirral, Liverpool, Knowsley and Sefton. This is a long-term project and work will be continuous. Partners involved in EVOLVE include Merseyside Police, Merseyside’s Police and Crime Commissioner, local councils, Merseyside Fire and Rescue, housing associations, health services, schools, colleges, Probation Service, local businesses, community groups and residents."
