Lufthansa suspends flights from Liverpool John Lennon Airport

Lufthansa will suspend its services from Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

The German airline began operating flights between Liverpool and Frankfurt in May 2022. Flights to the German city provided onward international connectivity for passengers from Liverpool, connecting them to destinations across the globe with only one stop.

The route between Liverpool and the German finance capital was said to be growing in line with forecasts. It increased its number of services from the Speke-based airport to six per week in Summer 2023.

However, the airline will suspend the service from Liverpool from February. The ECHO understands this is due a lack of Lufthansa plane availability, as the airline faces maintenance work on some of its fleet.

A Liverpool John Lennon Airport spokesperson said: “We are naturally very disappointed to hear of Lufthansa’s decision to suspend their Frankfurt service from Liverpool, particularly since the route was performing well and steadily growing in line with forecasts and we will continue to work with Lufthansa to secure the return of this important link at the earliest opportunity, once their availability of aircraft issues have been resolved.

"This route is strategically important for the City Region due to the global connectivity it brings and we will continue to explore opportunities to better connect the City Region”.
