We hear all the time about the big problems with the NHS. I want to tell you about my experience recently with doctors, and hospitals, because I cannot fault them.
My doctor’s surgery is part of the Paxton Medical Group who cover three sites on the Wirral – Claughton Medical Centre, Fender Way Health Centre and Townsfield healthcare. There are 20 doctors plus an array of very competent staff, including some very special nurses.
I’ve been with the group for years, and I can do nothing but praise them as the service is consistent. I always get to see, or speak to a doctor.

I get reminder texts for appointments, flu and covid jabs, plus check-ups for my asthma. Before anyone asks, I do not get preferential treatment.
I am not a hypochondriac, and I hate pestering the doctors, but I seem to be ringing more frequently as I get older. I was about to have my first cataract done.
I spoke to the doctors straight away, as I was suffering with a chest infection. I was on antibiotics so I needed to check I could go ahead. The practice could not do enough for me.
My optician – Jonny Goggles – referred me to Spa Medica, who sent me to St Cath’s in Birkenhead. I have always got my fabulous glasses from Jonathan, who used to have Kings Opticians. He has a new partner called Ozzy who is the optometrist and looks after me all the time.
Spa Medica are the leading provider of NHS eye patient service and specialise in cataract surgery. I believe years ago to have this done, you were in hospital for two weeks. Now it’s done in 10 minutes – that’s all it took.
I’ve now had both eyes done within five weeks. I found the staff at St Cath’s incredibly kind and helpful.
I was very nervous about it, with it being your eyes, but there was no pain, just a little discomfort. It’s totally changed my life.
The clarity and sharpness of my vision is unbelievable and the other night I went to the theatre, once again I can see the facial expressions of the actors on stage. I will still need reading glasses.
The only downside of the whole experience, is why didn’t anyone tell me how old I am looking! When I shave I can’t believe it’s me.
And as for the dust in my home, I can’t believe it, but that’s another story.
