Man arrested on suspicion of rape after woman ‘attacked in hotel’

A woman has reportedly been raped at a hotel in Southport.

Merseyside Police were called to the Nile Hotel, King Street, after reports of a sexual assault, at around 11.15pm on Sunday, December 10. Officers later arrested a man in connection with the incident.

The 57-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of raping a woman 16 years or older. Police confirmed he has been bailed while they carry out their investigations.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "A man has been arrested on suspicion of rape at an address in Southport, Sunday 10 December. At around 11.15pm it was reported that a woman had been sexually assaulted by a man at a property on King Street.

"Officers attended and a 57-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of raping a woman 16 years or older. He has been bailed from custody after being questioned.
