A warning has been issued to parents after children were again found playing in an unsafe building.

The Conservative Club building on Earle Street, Earlestown has been out of use for many years and has fallen into disrepair. In recent weeks however, numerous sightings of children playing in the dilapidated building have been reported.

Councillor Terry Maguire has stressed to parents that they must keep their children out of the premises, claiming they are in "immense danger".

Cllr Maguire claimed on January 24 that the building has since been secured, he said: "I have been made aware of the old Conservative club building in Earle Street being very dangerous. The worrying issue appears to be youths gathering at night in the back of the building. This puts them in immense danger as the building is in a very dangerous condition."

However, on February 5, youths were once again spotted in the decaying building, Cllr Maguire added: "Youths were reported yesterday inside the conservative club building

"This building is very dangerous and is in a very fragile state. Please warn your children if you suspect they maybe around this area in the evenings. Yesterday the police went out to check. Today the council went and put danger signs all over the building."

Several neighbours also shared their concerns. Phil Thompson said: "Looks like it's a matter of urgency to be made safe ASAP. Before someone's kid gets hurt or worse. Hope the owners act quickly."

Jenny Toole added: "Oh my god it looks like it could cave in any minute that, so dangerous!"

A spokesperson for St Helens Borough Council said: "“Building control officers have visited the premises and secured the rear gates to prevent access to the unsafe area of the building.

“We are in current contact with the owners to express our concerns and request they take action to make the site safe without delay.”
