A pack of dogs "would not stop" until they injured a mum and killed a beloved family cat on its own driveway.

A family were inside their home on Gallium Drive in Belle Vale at around 10.20am on Sunday, October 29, when four unattended dogs started to chase their small grey cat. In disturbing footage the ECHO has chosen not to publish, four dogs “on the loose” were seen hunting the cat as it tried to hide under a car.

The dogs attacked the defenceless pet before its owners ran out to help. Despite hitting the dogs with brooms and umbrellas, the dogs continued to bite the cat.

Eventually the owner of the cat managed to stop one of the dogs and the others scattered. But as she lifted up the cat, one of the dogs came back to bite her as well as the animal.

The owner of the cat said it "died in her arms" after spending the night at the vets. Speaking to the ECHO, a family member said that during the attack, her mum was bitten by one of the dogs as she tried to get them off their pet.

The woman, who doesn’t wish to be named, said: "My dad tried to get the dogs away, I don't know where he learnt it, maybe from TikTok or something but he pulled the dog in the air by the tail. It seemed to work, it let go of the cat and gave it the chance to run away.

"He was badly injured so my mum picked him up and went to take him into the house but the dogs followed, they bit her and the dogs tried to break into the house. They wouldn’t stop."

The owner said she was "out of her mind" when she saw what happened to her kitten.

She said: "I was so shocked, I ran home to find my mum bleeding and my cat injured, I was out of my mind. We tried to help, took the cat for emergency care but he died."

Merseyside Police are now investigating the incident and are asking anybody with information to get in touch with them.

A spokesperson from the force said: "We are appealing for information following a report that four dogs attacked a cat and had bitten a woman in Belle Vale on Sunday 29 October. At around 12.40pm we received a report that four dogs were off their lead and had bitten a woman’s hand and attacked a cat on Gallium Drive.

"The woman received treatment at hospital, and the cat was taken to the vet’s where it sadly passed away. Enquiries are ongoing, and anyone who witnessed this incident or with any information is asked to contact @MerPolCC on Twitter or ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook with reference 23001069922.
