An anti-Israel social media post is being investigated by hospital bosses.

Liverpool University Hospitals Trust posted a statement on social media on Friday, October 20, following a social media post uploaded on the personal Instagram account of Muhammad Abdelmoez Allam, who is understood to be a staff member.

Screenshots of the post, understood to be from when Mr Allam's Instagram account was public, have been shared widely on social media. Mr Allam's account is now private. The post showed an Israeli flag crossed out, together with the words "Death to Israel."

A spokesperson for the trust, which runs the Royal Liverpool hospital, Aintree hospital, Broadgreen hospital and the Liverpool University dental hospital, said: "As an NHS trust we are committed to ensuring fairness and inclusivity for all individuals and communities and take extremely seriously all allegations of behaviour contrary to this commitment. We will investigate this matter and take appropriate action immediately having had it brought to our attention."

According to Mr Allam's LinkedIn page, he started working at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in August 2021 as a vascular surgeon before becoming a speciality doctor in vascular surgery in January 2022. Before this he worked at a number of hospitals in London and Egypt.

The ECHO attempted to contact Mr Allam for a response ahead of publication.
