Home workers have been hit with a £417 warning as they incur extra costs while away from an office – but it could actually be a lot worse.
MakeMyHouseGreen has compared the added energy costs of working from home with the cost of commuting to the office to see which is more beneficial for cost-conscious consumers. Unsurprisingly, home workers have higher energy bills due to lighting and heating their homes, as well as charging devices such as laptops and phones.
The study showed that working from home added an average cost of £417.06 per year to energy bills. The average commute, on the other hand, worked out at almost double that at £795.72 per year.

And the savings from working from home could actually be even greater, as employees will likely spend less money on things such as a formal wardrobe, and higher childcare costs incurred to cover the commute time.
Llewellyn Kinch, CEO of MakeMyHouseGreen told the ECHO: "Employees who can work remotely are better off than those working in offices. However, at-home workers with renewable energy sources like solar at home stand to benefit even more, as they can offset the increased daytime energy expenses."
