Marks and Spencer is about to open a brand new store in Liverpool ONE after almost 100 years at its Church Street home.
The high street brand has had its ups and downs, but has been a solid favourite on the Liverpool high street for decades. We recently spoke to people who see the Crompton House M&S as an institution – and many visited the cafe every day.
The retail giant moved into the grade II-listed building in 1928 and will close its doors for a final time this evening (Monday, August 14). But M&S will be opening a new chapter in the former Debenhams building on Lord Street tomorrow (Tuesday, August 15) at 9am.

An M&S spokesperson told the ECHO today: "We’re really excited to open our brand-new M&S Liverpool ONE store on 15 August, bringing a previously empty retail unit in the city centre back to life with a fresh market-style food hall and spacious new clothing, home & beauty departments.
"We have been actively working to help ensure Compton House is brought back into use as soon as possible. We hope to be able to share more news on this soon and will be sure to keep the local community updated."
Ahead of the opening of the 70,000 sqft store, here is what we know so far and what we can expect from the retailer tomorrow.
Guest appearance from Percy Pig
Percy Pig himself will be at the store tomorrow to greet shoppers at the grand opening. We are sure there will be an opportunity to meet the star himself. It is not known if Penny, Percy's wife of five years, will be turning up.
Golden tickets for the first 200
The first 200 shoppers at the new M&S will be given golden tickets by the staff. Every golden ticket is "guaranteed a win", whether it’s a free bag of Percy Pigs or freshly baked cookies from the new M&S Bakery.
The golden ticket will also give one lucky customer the chance to win a £200 voucher to spend in-store.
New M&S Footwear and beauty sections
The new shoe try-on area that was not available in the Church Street store, but the Lord Street one is aimed to make it easier for customers to find the right fit and style. In store there will also be an M&S Beauty department home to popular brands including Apothecary collection as well as its new skincare range Fresh Elements.
Pay in the fitting room
New features of the Liverpool ONE M&S will include the option to skip the queues altogether and pay straight away in the store fitting rooms.
New M&S Foodhall
Inside the new M&S Foodhall, customers will find a 'fresh-market feel', with produce from M&S Select Farms, a bakery, a selection of cheeses, and a dedicated M&S Wine Shop.
The store is located at Liverpool ONE Shopping Centre, Lord Street, Liverpool, L2 1TA, UK and will be open Monday – Friday 9am– 8pm, Saturday 9am – 7pm and on Sunday, 11am – 5pm.
