Lorry fire causes M62 closure in both directions

The M62 is completely closed after a lorry caught fire on the carriageway.

Both Merseyside and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service are currently on the M62 between junction seven (St Helens) and eight (Burtonwood) after a lorry caught fire. The motorway has now been closed in both directions.

Pictures from the scene show huge flames coming from the HGV and thick black smoke billowing.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed the driver of the lorry was out when they arrived. They have had no reports of further casualties.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed two rolling roadblocks are in place on the M62 while emergency services deal with the incident.

The M62 between junctions seven and eight is closed in both directions as a lorry is currently on fire. Emergency services are at the scene and traffic has been stopped in both directions.
