Tributes paid to ‘Jono’ after man, 28, dies in M62 crash

Heartbreaking tributes to 'Jono' have been paid after a man, 28, died in a crash on the M62.

Just before midnight on Thursday, July 27, police received several reports of a crash on the Liverpool-bound carriageway of the motorway, just prior to Tarbock Island. A 28 year-old man died at the scene between junctions six and seven a short time later.

The man’s next of kin have been informed and his family are being supported by specially trained officers. Road closures remained in place for a number of hours on the westbound carriageway between junction 7 (Rainhill) and Junction 6 (Tarbock) for collision investigation work to take place.

The motorway has since reopened. Following the tragic incident hundreds of people took to The ECHO's comments section to pay tribute to the 28-year-old, with some referring to him as "Jono" or "J".

Friends and family posted heartbreaking comments including "sleep tight" and "we love you".

Ash Lawlerxo said: "Rest in peace J I’ll never forget you I’ll have to love you and leave you sleep tight xxx"

Darcy Johnston said: "Rip Jono rest easy."

Megan Lunt said: "My poor cousin. Forever young are kid we love you."

Ryan Cullen said: "Can't believe it… rest easy r kid R.I.P Jono cuz.. heartbroken!"

Jillian Cullen said: "Can’t believe I'm reading this gone too soon love you R.I.P j xx"

Claire Walker said: "I hope that they are looking at the safety of this junction, especially at night. Just tragic that another family is broken and a young life lost. Thoughts with all those that are grieving the loss of this young man."

Kerry Black said: "Heartbreaking my condolences to the young lads broken hearted family and friends especially his parent's forever young bless him."

Officers are appealing for any witnesses who may be able to assist in providing information to enable them to establish the full circumstances of this incident.

Detective Sergeant Andy Roper from the Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Our thoughts are with this man’s family at this devastating time and they are being supported by our specially trained Family Liaison Officers.

“I appeal to anyone who was travelling on either side of the M62 motorway in that area between 11:50pm and 12:05pm, who has dash camera CCTV in their car, to make contact with our team. We can check if any footage will have captured the build up to this collision or the collision itself.

"Additionally, if you were driving in this area and witnessed any part of this incident, I would be grateful if you could please get in touch. Any information you can provide may be vital in our investigation to fully establish what has happened."
