Many spectators at The Open Championship were forced to do a double take after they spotted Kate Ingram perched over the fence as you walk towards the 18th tee.

The mum-of-three doesn't have a ticket to the event at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club – but that hasn't stopped her from watching all the drama unfold from the best seat in the house. Kate has been able to enjoy the battle to win the Claret Jug in Hoylake from the comfort of the garden as she sits on a plush seat atop some makeshift scaffolding to get a unique vantage point of the course.

The ECHO has been stationed at the picturesque golf course throughout the tournament and this week spoke to Kate about her unparalleled view overlooking the final holes of the course. She said: "I feel quite guilty sat here able to see everything.

"You're totally surrounded by the coast, the estuary, you can see the Welsh mountains. Everyone who is coming here [for The Open] just gets to see how fantastic the Wirral peninsula is." She added: "I feel really lucky."

Kate is a real estate agent for Premium Listings and is in the process of selling the luxury property on behalf of the current homeowner, who, fortunately for Kate, is more interested in water sports than golf. The three bed home at 23 Stanley Road is valued at £1m and Kate said the home has been attracting attention from potential buyers this week.

She added: "It's an investment property and we've got some golf enthusiasts coming to enjoy this fantastic view which is quite exciting. We're one of three gardens on Stanley Road where you get a fantastic view of the par 5 at the 18th tee and the new par three 17th without any stands in front of you."

Kate has been joined by her two sons and their prominent position on the course has caught the eye of some of the professional golfers. The real estate agent explained how getting up, close and personal to world-class talent is inspiring the next generation to fall in love with the game.

She said: "I've been trying to get my boys more into golf. They've previously dabbled with a few lessons but they're totally hooked now and have been checking all the tee off times.

"Marcel Siem walked over and waved when I was with my boys and my son, Jack, said 'oh my god, mum' do you think he'll remember me?' We have also been right here when Rory Mcllroy teed off and just to be able to see him live, watch the crowd cheer and have people look at the boys and say 'you've got a great spot there' has been amazing."

Kate lives in Wirral and said it's been fantastic to see how golf fever has swept across Merseyside since one of the most esteemed occasions in sport descended on the region. She said: "The Open brings prestige to the Wirral in every sort of sense. The businesses, cafes and bars have all upped their game and look fabulous. Hoylake is in bloom, West Kirby is in bloom, they all look so fabulous and beautiful."
