The UK Foreign Office has updated its advice for people travelling to the USA.

On Friday, January 28, the government department has warned over curfews and "emergency orders" in the wake of the death of Tyre Nichols in Memphis, Tennessee.

Five Memphis police officers have been charged with murder after the death of the 29-year-old FedEx worker, who was savagely beaten and held down by police. A harrowing video shows Tyre screaming for his mother in an attack lasting three minutes.

The Nichols family legal team has likened the assault to the infamous 1991 police beating of Los Angeles motorist Rodney King. Cities across the country braced for large demonstrations, with Mr Nichols' relatives urging supporters to protest peacefully.

Gov.uk guidance currently states: "Protests are commonplace across the USA, some of which can become violent. Following reporting of the death of Tyre Nichols in Memphis, Tennessee, there is potential for an increased level of protests across the US.

"Different jurisdictions may introduce curfews or emergency orders. You should follow the guidance and instructions of local authorities.

"If you do attend any peaceful protests, you should be mindful of your surroundings, move away if there are signs of trouble, and follow the instructions of local authorities."
