Live updates as Devonshire House Hotel evacuated after fire breaks out

A fire has broken out at The Devonshire House Hotel on Edge Lane.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service are at the scene, as smoke and flames can be seen coming from windows on the third floor.

People have been told to evacuate the hotel by firefighters and a full search of the building for remaining people is now taking place.

Fire has now been extinguished

The fire has now been extinguised and fire crews are starting the damping down process.

Our reporter Charlotte Hadfield is at the scene she said that fire crews seem to be focusing their activity on the top floor of the hotel.

Two windows on the top floor have the windows blown out and black fire damage is visible.

Crews searching for people in the hotel

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have entered the building and are fighting the fire with a main jet hose and a high pressure hose reel.

They are also searching for occupants that may still be in the hotel.

An evacuation of the building is taking place, alongside a search of all floors.

Statement from Merseyside fire and rescue service

Fire crews have been called to a fire at the Devonshire House hotel on Edge Lane, Liverpool, this morning.

Crews were alerted at 10.04 am and on scene at 10.07am, with five fire engines and an aerial appliance in attendance. Crews arrived to find the four storey hotel with a fire on the third floor.

Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have entered the building and are fighting the fire with a main jet hose and a high pressure hose reel while searching for occupants.

An evacuation of the building is taking place. The fire has now been extinguished and damping down is in progress. A full search of all floors is taking place.
