Man dies after being hit by car near park

A man in his 60s has died after being hit by a car.

Emergency services were called to Liverpool Road, near Pewfall Park, in Haydock at around 4.05pm today (January 28) after a pedestrian was hit by a black Toyota Alphard car. The man died at the scene.

His next of kin has been informed and will be supported by specially trained officers.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is helping police with their enquiries. Road closures are currently in place at the section of Liverpool Road while emergency services attended the incident.

Drivers have been asked to avoid the area and find an alternative route. Police are appealing for any witnesses, CCTV and dashcam footage which may assist their enquiries.

Chief Inspector Philip Cowin said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family of the man who has sadly lost his life following a collision earlier today.

“We have now launched an investigation into his death and his family will be supported by our specially trained liaison officers.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident to please contact us. Alternatively, if you were driving in the vicinity, I ask that you please check your dashcam footage that may have captured the incident and to also come forward.

“Every piece of information is vitally important to our investigation to establish what happened.”
