Suspected EncroChat dealer named as he appears in court

Police have named a suspected EncroChat drug dealer.

Gary Cain has been charged with drug supply offences which used the encrypted messaging platform busted by Merseyside Police as part of Operation Venetic, also known as EncroChat. The 44-year-old, formerly of Bold Street, has been charged with being concerned in the supply of class A drugs (namely heroin and cocaine), and class B drugs (namely amphetamine and ketamine).

He has been held in custody by police and will appear at Wirral Magistrates Court today, Thursday, July 13.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "A Liverpool man has been charged with drug supply offences connected to his using the EncroChat encrypted messaging platform following his arrest yesterday morning, Wednesday 12 July.

"Gary Cain, 44 years, formerly of Bold Street, Liverpool city centre, has been charged with being concerned in the supply of class A drugs (namely heroin and cocaine), and class B drugs (namely amphetamine and ketamine).
"Cain was remanded into custody and is due to appear at Wirral Magistrates Court today, Thursday 13 July. The charge forms part of the Merseyside Police response to Operation Venetic: a national investigation into the use of encrypted mobile devices, commonly referred to as Encrochat."
