Schoolgirl hit in face with flying glass in Stagecoach bus attack

A schoolgirl was hit in the face with shattered glass after a bottle was thrown at a bus full of passengers.

The bus was travelling along Utting Avenue East in Norris Green when the incident occurred at around 3.20pm on Thursday, January 26. Merseyside Police said they received a report that a boy threw a glass bottle at a window of the bus after he got off on Utting Avenue East.

One witness said he heard shouting followed by the sound of glass smashing before a group of boys were seen running away from the scene.

A girl suffered cuts and bruises to her face during the incident and later received treatment for her injuries. Anyone who was travelling on the bus yesterday or has any information about what happened is asked to contact police

A police spokesperson said: "We are appealing for information after a teenage girl was injured when the window of a bus was smashed in Liverpool.

"At around 3.20pm yesterday afternoon (Thursday, January 26) officers received a report that a boy threw a glass bottle at a window of a bus when he got off the vehicle on Utting Avenue East.

"A girl sustained cuts and bruises to her face and later received treatment for her injuries.

"Enquiries are ongoing in the area. If you were on the bus yesterday afternoon and have any further information about this incident please contact police."

A spokesperson for Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancashire said: "We can confirm there was an incident on one of our vehicles yesterday afternoon (January 26) involving antisocial behaviour which resulted in a window being smashed.

"One passenger sustained minor injuries and the other passengers were transferred onto another service to continue their journey.

"The safety of our customers and staff is our number one priority and we will not tolerate anti-social behaviour on our services which are key to the local communities we serve."
