These photos capture stallholders and shoppers at various Merseyside markets between 1958 and 1988

People have been shopping at markets across Merseyside for decades to get their hands on items and products that have been made or sourced locally.

We've unearthed a selection of photos from the Mirrorpix archive that capture life at markets in and around Liverpool and Wirral. Taken between 1958 and 1988, they show how our shopping habits have changed over the years.

The below images include Speke Market, St Helens' Market, and Birkenhead Market, with a selection of photos also showing the original St John's Old Market, as well as life at St Johns Precinct.

Some of the images show shopkeepers proudly standing at their stalls, selling everything from food produce to footwear. Whereas others capture shoppers browsing the bustling markets.
